John’s Water Baptism
[Baptism of repentance for the
remission of sins]
Luke 3:3 And
he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism
of repentance for the remission of sins;
Luke 3:4 As
it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet,
saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye
the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Luke 3:5
Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall
be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the
rough ways [shall be] made smooth;
Luke 3:6 And
all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
Luke 3:7 Then
said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him,
O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the
wrath to come?
Luke 3:8
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not
to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to [our] father: for I
say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up
children unto Abraham.
Luke 3:9 And
now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree
therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and
cast into the fire.
Luke 3:10 And
the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then?
Luke 3:11 He
answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him
impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do
likewise.
Luke 3:12
Then came also publicans to be baptized, and said unto him,
Master, what shall we do?
Luke 3:13 And
he said unto them, Exact no more than that which is appointed
you.
Luke 3:14 And
the soldiers likewise demanded of him, saying, And what shall we
do? And he said unto them, Do violence to no man, neither accuse
[any] falsely; and be content with your wages.
Luke 3:15 And
as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their
hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;
Luke 3:16
John answered, saying unto [them] all, I indeed baptize you with
water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose
shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the
Holy Ghost and with fire:
Christian Baptism is not for
the remission of sin, Paul never associated it with cleansing
1 Corinthians
1:17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the
gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ
should be made of none effect.
Jesus never baptized anyone in
water
John 4:2
(Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,)
Ananias only knew John’s
Baptism when he baptized Paul he associated water with
purification
Acts 22:12
And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law,
having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt [there],
Acts 22:16
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away
thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
John 2:6 And
there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of
the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins
apiece.
See
Numbers 19 and Hebrews 9:5- And over
it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we
cannot now speak particularly.
Hebrews 9:6
Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests went
always into the first tabernacle, accomplishing the service [of
God].
Hebrews 9:7
But into the second [went] the high priest alone once every
year, not without blood, which he offered for himself, and [for]
the errors of the people:
Hebrews 9:8
The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of
all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was
yet standing:
Hebrews 9:9
Which [was] a figure for the time then present, in which were
offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that
did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
Hebrews 9:10
[Which stood] only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and
carnal ordinances, imposed [on them] until the time of
reformation.
Hebrews 9:11
But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by
a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that
is to say, not of this building;
Hebrews 9:12
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood
he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal
redemption [for us].
Hebrews 9:13
For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an
heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying
of the flesh:
Hebrews 9:14
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal
Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your
conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Peter is baptizing with John’ s
Baptism as the offer of the kingdom is still in effect for
Israel
Acts 2:37 Now
when they heard [this], they were pricked in their heart, and
said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men [and]
brethren, what shall we do?
Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of
you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and
ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
People baptized for the
remission of sins
[John’s baptism]
were re-baptized after the
rejection of the kingdom by Israel
Acts 19:1 And
it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having
passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding
certain disciples,
Acts 19:2 He
said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye
believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard
whether there be any Holy Ghost.
Acts 19:3 And
he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they
said, Unto John's baptism.
Acts 19:4
Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of
repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on
him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
Acts 19:5
When they heard [this], they were baptized in the name of the
Lord Jesus.
Acts 19:6 And
when Paul had laid [his] hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on
them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Remission of sin is by Faith in
Jesus Christ not Water Baptism
Acts 10:43 To
him give all the prophets witness, that through his name
whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
Acts 10:44
While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all
them which heard the word.
Acts 10:45
And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as
many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was
poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Again Faith in Christ First and
only for remission of sins, then obedience of baptism
Acts 8:36 And
as they went on [their] way, they came unto a certain water: and
the eunuch said, See, [here is] water; what doth hinder me to be
baptized?
Acts 8:37 And
Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest.
And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son
of God.
Acts 8:38 And
he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both
into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.
What is water Baptism for a
Christian?
Matthew 28:19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
